1996 grade Appaloosa mare
My grandparents surprised me with an early birthday present on February 19,
2001- my own horse, finally! While not the ideal beginner horse, Chica
has taught me so much more over the years than any bombproof, push-button horse
ever could have. The proverbial redhead, Chica has her stubborn, grouchy days.
However, she can also be very sweet and forgiving.
She understands more of the human language than most dogs do, and she picks up
things very quickly. She is voice trained, and in our show days, she excelled
in hunter under saddle, despite her bulldog build and 14.2 hh stature.
I may not still be 13 years old, but some days, it still seems like Chica is the only one that understands me, and hugging her makes even the biggest problems seem a little smaller. She is mostly retired now, but the occasions that I ride her, she still remembers everything. I'm not sure I'll ever have another horse like Chica, but that's ok- I'm lucky enough to have had one like her!
